A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Southern California on Friday afternoon, shaking buildings across Los Angeles and prompting evacuations from high-rises from downtown L.A. to San Bernardino.
The U.S. Geological Survey put the epicenter about 12 miles east of San Bernardino at a depth of 8.7 kilometers. No fatalities had been reported as of 4 p.m., but officials cautioned the situation remained fluid.
